IS THIS LIFE ?

SOME TIMES I SIT AND THINK ABOUT THIS WORLD
THE  WORLD , WHICH WE LIVE IN,
IT MAKES ME SAD, AND SOME TIMES MAD
IS ANY ONE TRULY SATISFIED, FROM WITHIN ?

YOU PICK UP THE NEWS PAPER EACH MORNING
AND WITH  ALL THE NEWS THAT YOU GET TO READ
YOUR  HEART STARTS ACHING & MOANING
ALL THERE IS, ARE STORIES OF LUST, MURDER AND GREED

AND I SIT ALONE  AND WONDER, AGAIN
DOES  A MAN, REALLY KNOW WHAT HE NEEDS ?
OR FROM HIS LIFE , WHAT DOES HE WANT, TO GAIN ?
DOES ANY ONE, ANY MORE, STOP AND THINK, OF THEIR DEEDS ?

TO ME IT SEEMS,  EVERY ONE IS STARVING
FOR STATUS, MONEY, POWER AND FAME
THE MORE ONE HAS, THE MORE, HE’S CRAVING
IS THIS REALLY LIFE ? OR IS THIS A NEW GAME ?

THERE WERE TIMES ,NOT SO LONG AGO
PEOPLE  WERE  HAPPY AND SHOWED THEIR LOVE &  CARE
NOW EVERY ONE SEEMS TO BE COMPLAINING
LIFE’S A BURDEN, LIFE’S VERY UNJUST & UNFAIR

LIFE’S WHAT WE MAKE IT,BUT NO ONE, CARES
TO GIVE THIS A THOUGHT OR TO STOP &  THINK
EVERYONE SEEMS TO BE TOO BUSY, NOWADAYS
THE DAYS & NIGHTS, JUST SEEM TO SHRINK

I SEE PEOPLE, ALL AROUND, AND SOME FRIENDS, I KNOW
WHO SEEM TO THINK, THAT  THEY WILL BE HAPPY ONE DAY
THEY SEEM TO BE FOOLING THEM SELVES, OF THIS, I’M  SURE
THAT THEY’LL MAKE UP FOR ALL, THEY ARE MISSING TODAY

BUT  THEN, LIFE IS A JOURNEY, WITH A ONE WAY TICKET
AND THIS IS WHAT MOST OF US, SEEM TO FORGET
THAT THE MOMENTS GONE BY,WILL NEVER RETURN, & I BET
THAT AT THE END OF THE JOURNEY, THERE WILL BE ONLY REGRET

“ GOD ! HELP US, PLEASE  DON’T LET US ,GO ON, LIVING IN SIN”
WITH PAIN IN HEART, I SIT HERE ALONE AND I WHISPER THIS PRAYER
” GOD ! HELP US,  MAKE THIS WORLD A PLACE WORTH LIVING IN
WHERE ,A LIFE OF PEACE AND HAPPINESS , WE COULD SHARE”

  1. wonderfully worded .. life as we see these days like you have said is mostly spent running behind mirages or waiting for something to happen just to feel happy .. A simple retrospection is enough to realise that happiness is what we make .. Being aware of this alone is enough to drive away the dark world that people are collectively entering ..

This poem clearly conveys a message that is much required to live life and not run through it without enjoying the essence of it !!

Awaiting for ur next post !! :)

  2. So true of the society we live in today! Brilliantly put forth...
I see people around me shirking everything that important in life and running after everything materialistic.
I've been with people who don't realize that they've got the best of things, and so they cringe, cry and just let greed get the better of them.
I've seen people compare with others who are better off and complain of anything and everything, despite there being a chance that if they compare with less fortunate souls, probably they'll find peace and satisfaction.
This society, world, life et al are all what we people make it...

It's better that we create a universe of our own with our loved ones such that we at least lead our lives in the best way possible without getting affected by others' deficiencies which are ruining everything... after all we have just one life, and since it's way too late to expect others to mend their ways, we might as well be selfish and live our lives to the fullest :)

  3. I see people's thoughts getting narrowed... I see people measuring a human with the material things he holds... i see people giving priority to physical things rather than somebody's feelings... its time for a transition!

  4. Hit the nail on the head, Johna. Yes, the people have become ‎like robots. They only want power and money but for what?? ‎They too don’t know. The run after power and after they get it , ‎then more power and money and then more money and then more ‎money and more power. This keeps going on. They don’t have ‎time to sit and enjoy anything which money can buy or which ‎they have even before money came in. Sometimes, I feel like ‎catching hold of a few of them and forcefully make them pause ‎for a while and to ask them just one question: “ What they want the ‎money and power for?””. If it is for luxuries and comforts then ‎why are they not enjoying it , why don’t they take out some time ‎to enjoy the things for which they have been chasing after ‎power and money like mad men. ‎

Johna, your comment is also like a blog itself. I do remember our ‎childhood days and for that matter, our children’s childhood days ‎too. I remember playing with Appu and his friends on the room ‎and infront of our house and in the fields all types of game, and ‎with Sweety and her friends too. Nadi pahad, pakda pakdi, shankli, ‎badminton, cricket and what not. With all the comforts and ‎luxuries and comforts children should be children and play ‎outside with other kids and enjoy life while they can. Simple life ‎is complicated by people only and the each one should understand ‎it themselves and then only the world will become a better place. ‎In the meantime as Appu says let us make a universe of our own ‎with our loved ones and live life in our own way, enjoying each ‎moment and the small pleasures of life which add up to such joy ‎and happiness that you are always smiling from within and that ‎happiness and smile becomes infectious and people who come in ‎contact with you also become happy and respond with a smile. ‎Lovely eye opening post. Keep writing and yes, your writing does ‎make people pause and think and it does make the world a better ‎place even if for a short while when people think after reading ‎your blog. Looking forward to more

  5. Thanks, to all of you, yes it’s a sad reality, how as people we have changed,
It’s not very long ago life was very simple, but yet very fulfilling, we were
always happy & there was contentment. As children, we had only the bare necessities.
At home there was only a radio for entertainment, but oh! we had all the time in this world,to go out and play, or laugh and enjoy with our parents & friends, or just listen to the radio, while sitting in an easy chair & reading a novel.

Nowadays people seem to have almost every comfort, all what they desire, yet they are restless & unhappy, they don’t have time to enjoy anything any more. 24 hours don’t seem to be enough any more. LIFE is too complicated today. It’s not simple as it use to be. It’s the simple little things that really enrich our life & make us feel fulfilled.

I have this very strong feeling that , it’s time for people to just sit and think a little, is this really a life they are living ? Or are they really happy, to be a part of this rat race. Do they realise what a fool’s paradise they are living in. It’s not too late we can change all this , if a conscious effort is made.

I always made this point clear with my family, and friends and I feel happy when they share my views and try make the best of every day. So there is sill hope, that the real essence of life will live on through them & their families.

  6. Hey Dad...wonderful post :) I've been having a really tough time coming up with words as wonderful as these to post a comment.

After reading these lines, I started thinking about my life (with all of its 20 years;)) and tried to relate it with your words and I always found that my life when I used to be at home before college started(I know, I know, it seems like I never leave now too:D) or when I've been near home or whenever I've returned home has always been simple, beautiful...the complications begin as I step out of it and they rise as I get further...So, Dad, it looks like you and Mumma both have been successful at shielding us from this really strange feeling that most people have to weigh life in materialistic terms. Most people are saddled with the thought that time's flying by and try to wrap their hands around as much as they can...no problem in that, except that the wrapping around of hands is around money, status, power, positions and God knows what! instead of love, happiness, love, family, books, music...everyone's become so selfish...they just have to have their share (and maybe grab some/all of others too :@)...No one's ever satisfied...and you know what they all do in the end?...the one thing you told me never to do...they regret.

Well...thank you then for always teaching us that the little things matter Dad...for playing badminton, grabs, scrabble, scategories and I can't remember half of the games we played:( and then for telling us bed time stories, for writing letters to us, for sitting or walking on the roof with us, for teaching us how to ride a cycle (credit goes to Appu and 'ma both :)) and then that scooty of 'ma's(full credit to 'ma:D) and then your bike(total credit to you, my hero:D), for coming to watch when we performed in a school function and clapping the loudest even if we stood in the last row and there was no way you could see us!:D, for making those little paper boats with us on so many rainy days, for bringing the love for novels and beautiful books and music and movies into our lives...Oh my God, I could write on and on...just saying that maybe, many people in the end may think that they lived an empty life but we'll always have this part of ours to look back on and never regret...

    Ok, so stopping now...loved it.
Come on out with the next post already!

  7. Oh my gosh!! True that blogs are known by their content, but more so by the quality of comments that each post attracts...
The set of comments right after mine leave me very very nostalgic, and I really feel like one of the chosen few who got to live life the way it should be lived thanks to my wonderful family...

@CJ: Make a list of all that we did in our childhood... reading your and mumma's comments opened the floodgate of nostalgia, and I'm drowning in the memories of experiences that were so crucial in the defining phase of our childhood :) I'll too start compiling stuff! We'll match notes when we all meet next ;)

  8. Wonderfully phrased uncle!! I totally agree with you...
A rigorous self-introspection is the need of the hour. Its really true that, people, these days have become so much intertwined with their materialistic desires that they have failed in their moral responsibilities towards their families. Simple things, like, spending time together, going for a movie, enjoying with the whole family have lost their worth. It feels as if today, people have become so busy and restless in their quest of materialistic desires that they don't want to part with a single second from their 'valuable' time for such invaluable things. One must not take life for granted. The most precious gift from god to human self is life. One must respect this...
Today everywhere you see, there is only confusion..chaos..and anarchy! We must all ask ourselves, "why do we forget our dear ones in the quest of achieving those things that we can not carry with ourselves on our way to heaven?" "Why do we fail to comprehend the joy of life, love, togetherness by devoting our precious time for doing mundane jobs in daily lives, when we cannot even imagine a promising future?"
Thank you uncle! It was a real eye-opener and I really admire you and your thoughts. I will be waiting for your next post impatiently!!
